Drew Barker Excels

In this blog, I'm trying to center on UK basketball and basketball recruiting but when things come up with football and football recruiting, I will post something small on it, especially during the summer with not a whole lot of basketball (or really any sports) news coming out. More after the jump.

In this case I wanted to talk about Drew Barker, who performed at the Elite 11 quarterback competition. Barker is one of the highlights of UK's 2014 class. He is ranked 117th overall by Rivals, 158th by ESPN, 120th by 247. He is a consensus four star recruit across the board. On top of all that, he has taken on the role of player recruiter for the rest of the 2014 class.

Barker was one of 18 quarterbacks invited to the competition, seven of which would be cut by the end of it. Barker was able to make the cut and prove that Kentucky football is prevalent. Barker is a Kentucky kid out of Conner High School and he chose UK over South Carolina, among others, in May.

This is what ESPN had to say about Barker's performance at the event:

"Barker is a big kid with a strong arm and that was on display throughout the Elite 11. The Kentucky native showed off his accuracy in drills and was a prospect that drew the attention of the coaches early on."

Barker beat out some incredible talents for a spot in the Elite 11 such as David Cornwell (Alabama) and Keller Chryst (Stanford). So although I don't delve into football recruiting that much, I felt that Barker and his most recent achievement deserve recognition.

Ev'ry Wildcat Star will shine
